Others Needed That Lost Hour and hid from the Cold – But Not These Five Men…

Event Date

Mar 13, 2017

It was a tough weekend in the Lake Norman community – we rolled the clocks forward and lost an hour of sleep, we endured dook winning another ACC tournament, after a balmy February of wearing shorts we got snow the first Sunday of March, and this morning the gloom came early and at a cold 30 degrees.  Many men found shelter in the warm grasp of the fartsack, but 5 men overcame sleep deprivation, scraped the ice off their windshields and posted in the gloom of Man Maker Monday in search of super-heroic strenght.  Here is their story…

5:25 we gathered, chatted, discussed how quickly these iron KBs get painfully cold.

5:30 we looked around… "Is this it?"  "Who has the Q?"  YHC replied, "That'd be me, so let's go!"

We took a warm-up lap around the corner and back, hoping upon our return we'd find the other dozen men who often post at this AO on Mondays… but no.  Today it would be just the 5.

Warmorama with some SHPs, ISTs, Windmills, Cotton Pickers, Mtn Climbers and Merkins.  Then some Seal Claps to cap off the warm-up.

We then grabbed our KBs, walked down the lot zamperini style, then with some skull crushers.  Around the bottom island, then – OH!  What's that???  A battle rope!  Well this will fit nicely into this MMM workout!  So we took turns on the rope while rest of pax did some lifting in the way of squats, curls, crushers, presses, lawn mowers, dead lifts, repeatos and threepeatos.  Each time we cycled through all 5 guys hitting the rope, we took a run to the top of the parking lot and back.  YHC thought that might keep us warm, but the movement alone allowed that 30 degree air to cut right through clothing like needles prodding the skin…

With 7 mins to go we through the rope down for the final time and the pax welcomed Mary to close the workout.  But this was no ordinary Mary…  Sure – there were some Big Baby Crunches, Low Flutters and Low Dollies.  But the pax also experienced quite a bit of painful knee-to elbow exercises – some standing, some side planking.  In summary, we showed off our moves.

The Moleskine:

Not a lot to share here.  We were busy lifting, running and working those ropes.  There was minimal back-talk other than the occasional "But we just did a shoulder exercise and now it's my turn to do the rope?"

YHC did promise we would work to gain super-hero strength today, so the Carolina Blue sweatshirt was shed (despite the temp) to show off The Flash Q shirt.  YHC later found out the pax was concerned I would later shed my shorts to show the matching bottoms.  Perhaps another day, gents.  Perhaps another day…

Thanks for the opportunity to lead, ShakenNotStirred.  Hope you enjoyed the workout – I mean, reading about the workout.
