With the Christina Latina 8K coming up this Saturday, YHC thought “why not conclude training for the 8K with tapering and proper recovery the Tuesday before at Fartlek?” Idea was to run approximately 5K but to do so on a simple route assuming most pax would be well ahead of YHC, add some nasty hills as there will be hills Saturday and finally give the must faster pax of Fartlek an option for another 1/2 mile and the nastiest hill (generally just to keep them busy til YHC could finish the regular 5K route and get started with Stretch back at the clubhouse).
So at about 5:31AM, YHC welcomed the pax, communicated the route and off we went. YHC turned on the headlamp and after about a block turned around to ensure the pax was indeed following me. They were, but in no rush. YHC was certain running alone out front would be short lived, but the pax apparently had no intention of offering YHC any company, banter or distraction that YHC would have certainly welcomed. YHC would eventually come to the conclusion that the pax didn’t want to finish ahead of me as the direction was to run the extra distance and nasty hill of Oakham St until YHC got the seasonally appropriate music on at the clubhouse entrance.
So YHC returned first and got the Irish Pub Rock on the Beats Pill. Frogger wasn’t far behind and limped in to join YHC in some stretching. Other was were seen returning but still elected to take the turn down Oakham voluntarily – ouch but well done fellas!
We would then stretch for 5-12 mins depending, and Omaha even brought out his matt (or matts – think he had 3 stacked).
At 0615 we reverse-swan-dove and recover-recover. This group is ready for the Christina Latini 8K and beyond.
