Outer Limits- Murph to Start the Year!

Event Date

Jan 02, 2021

Also in attendance: McBeal and Lil Kahuna

With 2020 in the books, and a new year dawning, the Outer Limits hosted its first week of the month (FWotM) Saturday boot camp, the inaugural workout out of the year. The FWotM workout was created with the intent to coax neighbors out of their warm fartsacks to a 7:00-8:00am boot camp with hopes of hooking new Pax for the weekly workouts. YHC was honored to ring in the new year and the gears where turning on how to start the year off with a Bang. Nextdoor post issued with a workout for all fitness levels ;), texts sent to EH some guys, and Slack messages posted to bring em out from downtown. Pusher going the extra mile even making coffee as a post workout refreshment for all Pax willing to join the Outer Limits, what a HIM.

But what workout would start the year off with a strong? Lots of hill sprints and bear crawls?? No, that has already been done.  One solid hour of monkey humpers? No, to innovative.   hmmmm….what about a Murph…. 100 pull-ups, 200 merkins and 300 squats with a 2 mile run? I think that might do the trick. But how can we do the pull-ups, we don't have enough pull-up bars?…..Ok Google….towel pull-ups???…would a rope work?…..it's never been done before….it just might be crazy enough to work (right up YHC's alley)…..run to Lowes, bought 100' of rope…..and let the cord cutting and end burning begin.

The Warama

To get to the .25 mile horseshoe the warama had to be on the move, off to the races. Disclaimer was given on the fly during the run down Summers Walk Blvd towards the new frontier. Pause for a short circle-up with some SSH, toy soldiers, IST, hillbillies, merkins, squats and arm circles, then and back to the mosey.

The Thang

We arrived at the .25 horseshoe where the Murph style workout begins. Three foot pieces of rope were distributed to the 7 Pax for our 9 sets of 11 rope pull-ups, 22 Merkins and 33 sqauts with 8 trips around the horseshoe. If YHC did his calculations correctly that would total 2 miles, 99 rope pull-ups, 198 merkins and 297 squats. Here we go.

As a option to build more muscle, pavers were placed at the short end of the horse where paxs could lunge walk to the pavers and do 30 curls and 20 overhead presses and catch the runners at the other end of the horseshoe. At the half way mark of our 8 loops the paver option seemed to be the preferable option, you meat heads 🙂

The Q was encouraged to hear that this workout was not as advertised, "for all workout levels," but good news is these were all well experienced Paxs.

8 horseshoes completed, a sigh of relief and mosey back to the AO. But wait that was not a full muph and we had more time, Yeah! Pax knocked out 1 final pull-up, 2 merkins and 3 squats to hit our 100, 200 and 300 goal, BAM MURPH COMPLETE. Also I am pretty sure two Paxs made a vowel to run the workout next year with a 20 lbs vest 😉

Mosey back to the AO with stops for bent-over rope rows (had to get more use out of those ropes) and walking side lunges to the right and left.

RECOVER, RECOVER! Now time for coffee and wait Pusher brought doughnuts too! I think he is gunning for the 2021 OL man of the year.

COT

– Pusher hitting the big 48 on 1/5/21 with a birthday Q on Tuesday.
