Its almost time for Polar Bear 2025
WHEN : Saturday, March 8th. 645am – 9:00am – THIS EVENT HAPPENS RAIN OR SHINE!
WHERE : Robbins Park Pavilion – Near the Big Tree Playground (Birkdale)
PARKING : On the street in front of pavilion or the lot near tennis courts
WEATHER : Expected to be 50 degrees and DRY (Rain comes in the afternoon)
WHAT to EXPECT :
Polar Bear is under new management this year, so a few things will get changed up. There will still be Americans to do and some basic orienteering to figure out. There will be new team challenges to overcome that will test bravery, cooperation, creativity, and basic woodsman skills.
A tour of the full course should be about a 5k. The objectives you will be doing should take most of the time.
Expect adventurous situations that may be OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE.
Good or Bad, this will be rememberable.
EVENT :
1.) On arrival, we will separate into randomized teams.
2.) Each team will be given a map with objectives marked on it. Go to the objective, read and follow the instructions to get points.
3.) Teams will then be given time to complete as many objectives as possible to maximize points. Strategy and flexibility will be key.
4.) Objectives will be worth different amount of points and proof of completion will differ depending on the instructions given. Many of the objectives points are based on team participation.
5.) Whichever team has the most points and is back BEFORE time wins.
RULES:
1.) Previous F3 events have had some “irregularities” in scoring. Therefore we are kicking up the importance of HONESTY and scoring accountability. Fair and clean is the motto this year.
2.) Follow the instructions for each objective. After completing an objective, RESET the area IF needed.
3.) Don’t mess with the objectives.
4.) Do not enter into private property, if you are close to private property, your lost…
5.) Don’t do stupid things. You are responsible for your own safety. Be smart, be safe, and have fun.
WHAT TO BRING :
1.) Proper clothing. It could be warm, it could be freezing. It could be dry or wet. Wear appropriate clothing and wear layers. Recommend long legged pants and a long sleeve shirt. I recommend wearing “not so nice things” that can get dirty, wet, and maybe snagged on something.
2.) The event will only be 2 hours long, you can hydrate early or bring a water bottle. Bring a small backpack if you want to bring water, snacks, and places to stash jackets if you get too hot.
3.) Bring your cellphone. Not only can it be used as a flashlight, but many of the objectives will require a photo to get points. There is a small chance that on some objectives, you could get wet, so bring a waterproof case for your cellphone if its not already waterproof.
4.) MOST IMPORTANTLY – A positive attitude. You will be doing things that you never thought you would do. It will be uncomfortable. Your teammates will be uncomfortable. A positive attitude trumps all challenges.
