Proof that anyone can lead a running workout

14 Strong Runners showed up to Fartlek despite Preblast warnings of getting lost.  Here is their story:

WARM-O-RAMA:

Mosey to the bottom of the hill next to St. Mark's Church.

The BRR Training Thing:

  • Run to the top of the hill.
  • Go back for the six.  All run together at recovery speed down the hill.
  • Repeato 4-5 more times.  Feels like each iteration was slightly more than 1/4 mile, maybe 1/3 of a mile ish.

Mosey back to the AO.  We did some stretching while Garcia, Honey Bee, and Kumquat "rounded up" to 6 miles.

Recover, recover.  We covered 5.4 miles according to my Strava.  Some slightly less, some slightly more.

Moleskin:

  1. Prayers and praises for Ramrod and his M for their new arrival yesterday!  Update:  Kyle and wife Lauren had a baby girl and named her Rosalind Gorman Margrave.  And she is quite beautiful.  Congrats!
  2. A warm welcome to Eric Panicko (sp?) now known as Breadcrumbs.  We debated several names, many related to his height and recent races; one of which was an ultra race with ~20k people on foreign soils.  Dude is a beast.  Thanks to Crab Legs for bringing him out and we hope to see him often!
  3. Anyone can "lead" a running workout.  This backblast is proof that neither creativity nor directional skills are needed!
  4. PSA:  If you are in F3 Lake Norman and like to run, you need not ever run alone.  For the sake of anyone new ish to our area, there are running / running heavy workouts EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Examples include:  (apologies if I left any out…I will gladly update if so)
    1. Monday:  Fireball and Titan
    2. Tuesday:  Fartlek and Gaga
    3. Wednesday:  HalfLife
    4. Thursday:  Java
    5. Friday:  Odyssey
    6. Saturday:  The River Rat 10k and Excelsior
    7. Sunday:  "Off the books" or "OTB" for short.
    8. Additionally:  You will find people gathering for evening runs, mid morning runs (I.E. Mooch et al), etc.  And there is almost always a group Marathon Training.
    9. Point is:  You almost never need to run alone these days in Lake Norman.  There are Slack and Twitter channels dedicated to all things running, if interested to know more feel free to reach out to me.
  5. Great work by Garcia, Honey Bee, and Kumquat.  They all crushed some long tempo runs yesterday, and will presumably hit some intervals per the Hanson plan tomorrow.  YHC apologized that hill repeats between those 2 runs are probably not ideal.  However, they did not complain and got in some "extra credit" at the end of the run.
  6. Favorite line of the day was during stretching.  While doing the "Butterfly Stretch", YHC mentioned it stretched the "inner hip area".  Travolta reminded us that it's actually called the groin area, but that that was a recent change.  *lol*
  7. Kumquat laughed that YHC needed directions pretty much out the gate.
  8. Jorel dropped a "that's what she said" which is always funny.
  9. Jimmy O and Tweetsie crushed this workout in tandem.  Nice push gents.
  10. WD = Crab Legs and Tweetsie.  Awesome work by both.
  11. Incredibly impressed with how fast Tagless, Billy Bob, Omar, and Daisy have gotten.  What an amazing crew out there today, pushing hard.
  12. Tagless, appreciate the opportunity to "lead".  Actually, "lead" is a strong word because you actually helped YHC get to the bottom of the hill.  And from there, the PAX didn't need much encouragement to crush the hill repeats.

Aye gents.  Great work.  Remember:  No need to run alone in F3 Lake Norman.
