Proof That Blood Is An Unnecessary Extravagance

Event Date

Jul 08, 2016

Pax not listed:  Paul Shaffer

6 PAX including YHC, set out at dawn for a 13-mile ride through Davidson and a brief blow into Iredell County.

THE THANG – approximately 13-miles at an F3 appropriate pace (interpret that however you like). Departed from the library parking lot at 0600.  South St > Greenway > Robert Walker > River Run > Shearer Rd > Gray Rd > Concord Rd.

MOLESKIN

– Today's high will approach tirple digits, but the weather this morning was pleasant.  Humidity was high, but had yet to reach beastly levels.  The view of the sunrise from where the Greenway instersects with Robert Walker was spectacular.

– Moses and DMV joined us for the first time, each making their maiden voyage on their bikes.  The average height of the group rose by 83%, and with Swamp Thing already a regular Friday morning rider, I'm confident we were the tallest peloton in North Meck (this morning).

– We picked up a rider in the last third of the ride. Scott, a professor at Davidson, latched on with the group as we made our way on Gray Rd.  Naturally, I began the EH process.

– And, the yellow jersey goes to…Paul Shaffer, who gutted it out after giving blood yesterday.  Not only did he do the ride, but he squeezed in 30 minutes of Pain Lab, pre-ride.  Who needs blood, when you've got strength and determination in spades? Hardcore, War Daddy!

COT

Moses is EH'ing guys to join in an F3 open water swim group.  Hit him up if you're interested.

The 5-year anniversary of the Isotope region will be marked with a convergence on August 27th. Moses is organizing.  Be there!

An F3 Dads workout will take place in Smithville Park in Cornelius at 7AM on Saturday, July 16th. Jolly Roger is organizing.

Swamp Thing took us out in prayer, urging us to rise above the hate and anger that has swelled this week between communities of all colors and law enforcement.

I am always grateful for the opportunity to ride with this group of men. Riding alone is the ultimate sad clown experience. Always better to have others to share in the joy and pain.  My only regret is that we don't have time to ride longer on Fridays.
