5 men came to Cobalt this morning to kick some a$$ in memory of my brother, Eric J. Carlson, who passed away 7 years ago on March 9, 2012, at the age of 35. He was born on 11/9/77 so would have been 42 years old on Saturday.
Eric developed an addiction mainly to opioids in his 20's. He went through a rehab program in his late 20's but continued to struggle with addiction until the time of his death in 2012. He ultimately took his own life after his long struggle. I'm lucky to have a great family to lean on including Carl (F3 – Mermaid) and Rick (F3 – Dori) along with my wife and parents and so many other family members and friends. We tried so hard to find ways to help him but unfortunately we couldn't figure it out. My advice to anyone dealing with a similar situation is to find outside help (counselor, treatement professionals) that can provide an objective perspective on the best ways to help. There is no handbook for addiction.
Can't thank my F3 brothers enough – El Tigre, Natty Lite, Tool Time, The Germanator – for being there this morning. Thanks to Surf and Turf for the text exchange last night after reading the preblast.
