IMPORTANT CHANGES:
After posting a BackBlast with the reading plan in it each day for the last few weeks, it seems like there has to be a better way. Feedback from the PAX says so too. Going to try something new for February. Here's how it will go down.
Each week YHC will post a recap of the the previous weeks readings on Sundays along with a few reflective questions. In the same post, YHC will include the following week's passages. Thanks for the feedback and keep it up.
At this point, you have finished the first month. If this is your first day, no sweat. Jump in and join along. Don't worry about what you missed. The best is yet to come.
Week In Review
Old Testament
We completed our first book of the Bible this year last week. The epic beginning of creation, the story of the fall of mankind, and the beginning of God's daring rescue starting with 12 Tribes of Israel. In the last part of Genesis, we read about Jacob, he-hem…, Israel getting sick. All of his sons come to see him on his death bed and he grants them all a blessing.
Joseph gets permission from Pharoh to bury his dad. Before Joseph dies, he tells how God will lead the Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.
That ending leads us right into the story of Exodus. Literally translated, Exodus means "departure". It is hundreds of years after Joseph's story has ended. No one remembers how Joseph led the entire land of Egypt. The Israelites are enslaved and enduring undue hardship as result.
Moses lands on the scene and grows up the grandson of Pharoh. He murders a man for mistreating a Hebrew and flees to the desert. God finds him there and the amazing story of the Burning Bush unfolds.
Moses is afraid, because he feels God has chosen the wrong person. Reminds me of something I heard once that makes a lot of sense.
God does not call the equiped, He equips the called.
We have made our way through most of the plagues that God sent on Egypt as a result of the hardend heart of Pharoh. We shall see how the story unfolds and God reveals Himself in this coming week.
New Testament
Mathew is moving at light speed covering the miracles and teachings that Jesus perfromed. We see that Jesus is continually challenging the norms of society. JollyRoger likes to refer to this as #makinganomlette. I suppose because doing the right thing, requires "breaking a few eggs" once in while.
We also read the eye-witness account of the Transfiguration. Regardless of the tradition you are apart of, Catholic, Protestant, or Non-Denominational, you can easily see the significance here. Jesus has Moses and Elijah standing with him. They are all in vibrant white clothes. This is the joining of the Old and New and there Jesus is… right in the middle. He is the bridge between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, Man and God… YOU and God.

- What Themes are you picking up from your journey so far?
