Some Pirates are Deceptively Fast

YHC had wondered why some ruckers were not joining in recent weeks for our scheduled routes. Turns out it has to do with the Q. As an Ironman alumni, Holiday apparently had more sway over the Incogs when he pre-blasted the same route as last week, only in reverse. He even hooked T-bone despite not seeing the pre-blast. I guess that comes with the Q’s newly earned title of RESPECT.

In all, 7 men rucked 5.5 miles, going counter-clockwise around the Birkdale golf course. YHC had purposely dropped pack weight to a mere 20# knowing it would be difficult to keep up with the pace the Incogs would set. They claimed they were packing 45# (Jolly of course had 46#) and they easily held the lead throughout. At one point they stopped to do merkins while yours truly brought up the rear. In the end we averaged a 16:15 pace, shaving a good 15-45 seconds per minute off the last few excursions.

At one point, while Holiday hung back for me, I opined the idea of faster ruckers adding more weight in excahnge for a slower pace with similar effort, but that probably won’t get traction. Despite that, it was fantastic to have new bodies join us this morning. Even if all I ever saw was their posteriors.

Any new takers for Saturday’s long-distance ruck?
