Reflection:

Last weekend was Father’s Day, and Garrison and I were on a Boy Scout camping trip.  He is the Troop “Chaplin’s Aide” and we put together a service for last Sunday about God the father.  I would first like to give Soldier and F3 a shout out for him being able to stand up in front of people and proclaim the gospel with confidence.  It shows me that he has seen us do it here, and has instilled a confidence in Soldier, that he too can do it.  And he does it well!  Secondly, here is the verse I am hijacking from that service.  It focuses on God as our heavenly father, and also on discipline.

Hebrews 12:7-11 (NIV)

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
