A few months ago, my beloved Eagles played BRP MQ Mr Holland's Lions, and I foolishly proposed a friendly wager: loser Q's the other guy's AO. Well, despite being heavy favorites, my Eagles choked, so I lost the bet. Several postponements due to Jollyball and needing to focus on running prep for relays… and here we are.
So I send the pre-blast, stole The Estate's cinderblocks (no seriously, I did), and wrote out my first winkie in about two years. This was gonna be epic. Between a partner Zamperini relay and a modified block Bataan Death March… I planned for those cinderblocks to see about 2-3 miles of movement on the track today. The winkie was double-sided! Actually who am I kidding, it was totally going to be a clusterQ.
Well, I roll up and see five cars… I'm thinking; awesome, nice small crowd, let's do this! We all get out, start stretching… and then Mojito starts talking about "the route". Exsqueeze me, baking powder? So… turns out the five gents are on a Palmetto team together and planned an OTB training run. And I was sad-clown at BRP. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
So I asked if they could wait until 7:05 and if nobody showed up… I would just run with them. So that's what we did, Surprise Fireball! I ran with M-16 who was kind enough to hang back a bit with me… the rest of the gang was straight blazing after mile one. Thank god for M-16 because I leave Huntersville and I'm as bad as Turnpike with the navigation. Great mumble chatter with all, thanks for being there and making sure a great workout happened – really lucky for me you all were there!
