This addition of Taco Tuesday was done at 204 North Kitchen on Feb 20th. There were 5 choices, steak, chicken, shrimp, pork belly, and carinita. This was the 1st visit for everyone but Moby Dick, who had told me about this place after one of our $2 taco events at the local long before we started the taco review tour. Attendees today where Turncoat, Clubber, Gnarly Goat, 9-Lives, Moby Dick, and YHC (Sweet C). 204 is definitely a newer fresher location than the local as far as the look and feel of the restaurant, and taco Tuesday must bring in the masses as the place was pretty packed and tacos where pretty much all I saw coming out of the kitchen. Everyone in the group has had the Local’s tacos accept 9-lives.
Turncoat – 204 North Kitchen review: Tacos not as overstuffed as the locals, but better structural integrity thanks to double corn tortilla. Of the 4 I tried steak was the tastiest (lime marinated cubes) followed by the carnitas (slightly sweet due to the mango salsa). Chicken was just OK – a little dense and could’ve used another ingredient/topping. Good service 6/10.
Clubber – 204 North Kitchen review: Mmmmm Tacos! Service 6/10. I had steak and chicken Tacos hold up much better than the local, most likely due to less goodies. The proof of this no fork needed. The chicken while good was nowhere close to the steak. Hands down the steak was superior. Avoided shrimp due to it making me look like Will Smith in Hitch when an allergic reaction happens, although with Gnarly Goat and 9 lives in attendance, I should have been oaky to try. The double shell was a nice surprise and an effective structural enhancer to the taco. I’m trying to move further away from meat in my diet however there was no veggie option. With that, what’s a taco without meat? More pizzazz and flavor with these over the Local but less contents leaving Clubber wishing he had 4 rather than 3.
Sweet Caroline – 204 North Kitchen review: I had 3 total tacos the Shrimp, Pork Belly, and Steak. I agree the 2nd corn tortilla gave the tacos structure but I am also not a corn tortilla fan, even though they are the more traditional style. The shrimp taco was my favorite over all. I too agree with clubber that 1 more taco based on the size and contents would have been a better choice. Now I know! The pork belly was a very good taco as well with a pineapple salsa that was sweet yet tangy. As of right now I am still local fan and I always go with the beef tacos there. I will give the Tacos a 6 out 10 and the service a 8 out of 10.
9 lives – 204 North Kitchen review: I had the carnitas, pork belly and steak. Although I cannot compare to others (yet). I would categorize these as gourmet. Delicious! The complimentary ingredients were spot on.
Other can post their comments below of their reviews at this is all I had at time of publish.
