I knew my reputation in TPR has taken a hit but was under the impression it was still intact outside The Wall, until today when Gypsy was then only sucker pax to join me for Taco Tuesday north of 485. Goat called for Zapata's last week so that's were we met.
I was a little hesitant to go to Zapata's as I really didn't consider it cheap Mexican and while it was a little more expensive than last week's restaurant it was well worth it. The upside to only two of us posting is we got to know each other better, though I was saddened to learn that Gypsy runs BRR on a non-F3 team…just as I was getting ready to EH him to run with TPR! Back to the real reason for this backblast…TACOS! I ordered the Street Taco (pork) and the Carnitas (also pork) while Gypsy had the Tempura Fish and the Carnitas. The nice thing with Zapata's is you also get rice, refired beans, and a tasty slaw. I will let Gypsy write his own review but after the first bite we were both in agreement that these tacos rated a 9+! The soft shell had a little crisp to it, they must quickly throw them on the grill before filling them. The melted Monterrey Jack cheese was a nice surprise and quite tasty. The pork had a lot of flavor and everything else tasted fresh. These were a vast improvement over La Uncia's tacos. The free chips and salsa while a nice touch were not much to talk about especially seeing as we only finished one bowl of chips. In spite of that flaw, we will definitely visit Zapata's again.
