Taking one for the team – VQ

YHC preblasted about this VQ yesterday afternoon. After the usual suspects responded, I shut down the phone and went about my day. When I turned in for the night I had more notifications on twitter than I’ve had since that one unfortunate pic of me went viral… so the VQ was definitely on.

21 men joined me for the experience, which went way smoother than I expected. Here’s how it all went down…

Mosey around the front of the building with butt kicks and sideways runs facing the road and the building. Landed in the parking lot for a disclaimer and warmup.

Grab a cinder block and park them in the middle of the track. Started to get some confused looks since not everyone had a block and I seemed totally cool with that.

ROUND 1 – RUNNING WITH STATIONS AND BLOCKS

Laps around the track stopping at each end to do 10 Merkins and 10 Diamond Merkins per lap, respectively. Next lap is 9, next lap is 8, etc. After the leader (AOL… always AOL.) finished their second lap everyone met in the middle for block work that broke down like this:

After lap 2 – 15 lawn mowers each arm

After lap 4 – 30 curls

After lap 6 – 30 skull crushers (insert first grumbles from Crocs)

After lap 8 – 30 bent over rows

After lap 10 – 30 shoulder presses (more general grumbling)

Discovered our 6 had 4 laps left so we all joined together for a lap at recovery pace with 4 Merkins and 4 Diamond Merkins.

ROUND 2 – 7 UPS

Mosey over to the hill for 7-ups. Run backwards up the hill, do 7 squats, come back down. Repeat with 6, then 5, etc. Picked up the 6 with one up to go and everyone did one together.

ROUND 3 – LOT LUNGES AND CALF RAISES

10 lunges across the lot, followed by 10 calf raises in place (except for Toby, who had his own unique technique that can only be described as “interpretive dance meets frolicking youth.) Made it through about 4 rounds of that before circling up.

MARY –

I forget what everyone called, but Amen won the day with his 10 count down to 6 inch holds.

To everyone’s delight, we got to Crocs with roughly 2 minutes left which he decided was his and his alone, and we finished with some Pigeons and frog poses. Good stuff.

Couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys for my VQ, and I’m grateful and blessed to have found this community. Thanks to POS and Deadhead for helping me figure out some details (like where the ant piles are and where they aren’t. HINT – they are everywhere I am and nowhere Deadhead is. POS was a casualty of circumstance. Sorry, man.)

Catch you all next time. Peace.
