7/18/2013 is YHC’s F3 anny and The Wilderness is where it all started for me – so today would be the day the pax would get to relive that first post 11 yrs ago .
9 pax plus YHC cut through the heat and humidity to hear and tell the story. Interesting to note, Snake Eyes, Amen and Jorel all posted for YHC’s 10th anny here LY as well. Would be fun to see who has the longest run of these. Oh – probably YHC…
So here’s how it went 11 years ago and again today (and just about every year in July but I’m sure I’ve missed it a few times).
Mosey up Hugh Torance, high knees, butt kickers and karaoke til we reach the traffic circle.
Warm-o-rama. (YHC audibled and held this at the launch due to the Karen who has moved in at the traffic circle at some point in the past decade)
Warm-o-rama
SSHs x 15
Mtn climbers x 15
Windmill x 20
IST x 15
Long snappers (called something different 10 yrs ago) x 15
Mosey to where Friday once lived (when he also once did F3). Corner of da beach
4 corners of da beach:

2 – Merkins 15
3 – Freddy Mercury’s 15
4 – Burpees 5
Plank and wait for pax.
REPEATO!
Form 2 lines for an Indian Run. “As far as you can go for 2 laps.”
Kumquat and Burner led the two lines in 2013.
Ok that was a mess, so “everyone to a different line this time.” Yeah – Jorel said that too in ‘13.
After the 2nd lap of Indian Run, “Not enough bikinis at the beach, let’s go home.”
Stop at “the giant yarn ball” (small grassy field by Macbeth).
Shoulder touch merkins x 16 (a Jorel mishap of miscount back then).
Squats x 15
Mosey to Queens Corner

The W x15
Mosey up the street and behind the tennis courts.
Pick up a friend.
High, low and full curls x10
Rotate 4 to the right.
Shoulder press x 10
Welp. The pax and YHC got to the rock pile but it was 6:13 already so 2024 was a fail. After 11 years of this we’ve gotten slower, weaker.
Moleskine:
”What do a vasectomy and a Christmas tree have in common? The balls are just for decoration” Thanks for that, Jorel. He shared the question at the workout in 2013 but told the pax they’d have to read the backblast to get the answer. I of course had no idea what a backblast was that day…
Special t-claps to BEP (EHed me) and Jorel (Q’d my first workout) for starting this big fat mess for me.
Reminders – EHs matter. BEP was successful with me 10 years ago. But he also joined me for the workout, talked me through it, encouraged me and met me again a week later.
And Jorel’s workout. My first. If I hadn’t loved it I might not have returned. Qs: out out a PB and plan your workout. Never know who might show up in the gloom.
And my nickname the next week. It can be fun to be funny but consider if a mean nickname will encourage a new pax to come back or not. It’s probably not worth it to just hand out a name you think is funny…
F3 has done so much for me and those around me and I’m proud to say I’ve EHed many men since, some of whom have experienced the love, support, fitness, beers, bourbon, injuries, tears, CSAUPs and brotherhood that I’ve experienced for 10 years now.
F3 is special and we all want to share it.
Happy manniversary! But wait one cotton pickin’ moment — what did we used to call Longsnappers and when did we become woke and change it? More importantly, who is credited with starting the Wilderness AO and how long was it around before you added value by attending? Inquiring minds want to know (as do I).
I could not tell you the year Cotton Pickers was updated to Long Snappers – only that there were 147 names in between, none of which align with the names any other region in F3 has for them!
Jorel started The Wilderness but you’d have to ask him when – it was discussed a little in the gloom today, though. YHC would say Jorel started it some time in the 1st year of F3 Isotope (the first time we were called Isotope). So 2012. YHC was the MQ for about 3.5 years or something like that. Handed it off to Top Gun who changed the launch time to 5:30 (booooooooooo). TG gave it to Amen. I’m no historian but I’m fairly certain I’m within 5 years of all the above dates. You’re welcome.
I reserve that storytelling for an in person get together, ideally with VIPs in the circle and not just a generic reply. Or just come ask me sometime.
