We haven’t forgotten you, Mary

It was a dark and steamy morning – the dank, sweat sucking humidity furnace firing on all cylinders, like a 1930s-era farm tractor that had seen the dustbowl, depression, and horsemeat shortage but still going strong after being converted into an ice-cream making machine pumping out hot exhaust while churning tasty treats for the plumbers's crack patrons of the 2005 Catawba County Fair; but the humidity was only one key factor in our tale of middle-aged dad bod exercisers.

[the preceding single sentence was inspired by the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest.  See www.bulwer-lytton.com for some entertaining reading]

It all began in August 2014 for this storyteller.  H.E. and Drexler nonchalantly relayed to me that they had met in F3 and continued on their story when I asked what the heck that was.  Their exact words were, "If you don't know what it is, you need to."  A week later I rolled in to Track Scan and proceeded to get destroyed by Chief on a similarly sultry morning, got named by Cupcake the next day, and from that moment I was hooked – mostly by this group of ragtag gentelemen who make the world a better place every single day.

Four years hence, it was time to step back into the Q saddle, since I hadn't led a workout in over a year for various reasons.  I was thrilled to see a competition for parking spots at FUMC as 20 warriors rumbled in.  Through the heat of the summer gloom, I saw a woman crying out to us – her name was Mary, so we decided to throw her a bone.  Here's how the morning went:

Pledge Allegiance to the Flag

Mosey to the bulbous tower for the COP

  • SSH x25
  • IST x15
  • Windmill x10
  • Spider Man Merkin x10

Mosey to the smoking benches for Dips IC x10, then to first parking lot.  This was intended to be a tour of the entire Monster Mile AO with pain stations along the way.  We didn't make it to all the spots in the time alotted, but stopped about a dozen times along the way.  At each stop, we started on our 6 with a compliment of 30 LBCs and at least one other exercise before continuing.  In all, we did, I think, 360 LBCs.

Other exercises coupled with each round of LBCs:

  • Low Flutter
  • Freddie Mercury
  • London Slide
  • Low Dolly
  • Rosalita
  • J-Lo
  • Makhtar N'Diaye
  • Weezie Jefferson
  • Homer to Marge
  • Box Cutter
  • Peter Parker
  • WWII Situps

We did one more round of Dips in the Holy Shack behind the Church, then moseyed back to the lot for a last round of LBCs, RECOVER RECOVER at exactly 0615.

Naked Man Moleskin

Great showing by the men of Race City and our two visitors from the Peoples Republic – thanks Easy and Duvall for traveling North!!  I don't know if it was the promise of free breakfast or the Iron Horse Challenge, but it was amazing to see a big crowd today.  Mumblechatter was high today – great to hear.  You may notice that we didn't save Mary for the end because she was looking for some attention.  No Mason Twists, which was by design.  Today is National Be Kind to Your Coccyx Day.

I'm inspired by this group and honored to be given the chance to lead.  The VQs all did an amazing job last week – the Master Qs are doing their job – creating new leaders.  Thanks Shambala for the chance to step in today.  I encourage everybody to Q as often as possible.  Thanks for 4 great years!  (and counting)
