Reflection: Genesis 32: 24-28
24 …And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 And he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,[f] for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

– It's a familiar story about Jacob wrestling with God.
– I don't recall ever understanding the part of this story where God asks him to say his name. Jacob wouldn't say his own name.
– I can relate to the portion of this story of Jacob doing things his own way, and being prideful, and not giving in to God's discipline and His plan for my life.
– I don't want to admit who I am. I don't want to declare who I really am. I don't want to be humble and confess.
– Maybe you have been wrestling with God in your own way.
– The Good News is that God loves you and is waiting to bless you.
– Be humble. Confess your past failures. Repent.
