This was a great morning at Bailey Road Park. First the weather…crisp and sunny at 28 degrees, just like a February Saturday should feel like. Second, the AO…there is so much to do and see here, you never get bored. Finally and most importantly, the pax…this morning dialed up 7 motivated, positive, productive, fit guys you just want to be around, talk and hang out with.
The Boatgusters (Mr Holland, Enron, and PopCorn) got 6 miles in before the beatdown.
We started with a short mosey to the centerfield of the right soccer field for some normal warmup exercises and some old-school ones (Peter Parker and Parker Peter).
Then on to the basketball court for a couple of BearCrawls and a couple of Crabwalks. Apparently these are old-school too. PopCorn wondered out loud why these were difficult. We also found Jersey Boy's wheelhouse (Bear Crawl) and Kryptonite (Crab Walk). I admired WaffleHouses pants, amazon specials.
Then to the structure by the baseball fields for some People's Chair coupled with air presses and seal claps. Then balls-to-the-walls which are hard to do but not sure what muscle they work. Swing State knows they blow out shoulders…unfortunately.
Then mosey to the greenway along Old Statesville for a pax introduction to Wile E Coyote 'Mericans. These are easier for taller pax, but pro-tip…point your toes. Enron and Mr Holland commented that they were like bench-presses. History lesson…The Count introduced these to the pax in like 2014 at Mad Scientist back when he was a beatdown beast. I try to break these out anytime we're near train tracks. We finished up with a set of Wile E Coyote Man Maker Mericans. Jersey Boy took a memento to memoralize his experience there and carried the coupon the rest of the workout.
Then to the tree-house area for some dips and step-ups.
Then to the parking lot by the tennis courts for a merkin ladder. Run to the first parking lot line and do one merkin, run back. Then run to line 2 for 2 merkins, then back to the start. Repeat this pattern for 16 parking lot lines. 136 merkins in about 10 minutes.
Then to the soccer field for some mobility/core work.
Then to the greenway by the trail. Partner up and grab a rock. P1 runs to the playground and does 10 pull-ups then runs back. Meanwhile P2 does rock presses. Next round more pull-ups and then skull-crushers.
Then a pass through the dip bars, MudRun style. Then to the structure at the parking lot for more People's Chair with air presses and seal claps.
Then back to the grass by the cars for Freddie-Mercuries, capital letter ABCs and lastly a 1-minute plank.
PopCorn took us out with prayers-up for our world-leaders and the decisions they're making.
Moleskin:
– We talked a lot about Shield-Lock. I personally had some questions. The concept was born while I was primarily running and riding and wasn't doing beatdowns, so wasn't a part of the roll-out. Context was limited to tweets with the hashtag. This morning the guys at the beatdown shared their thoughts and experiences with shieldlock, and later my Goatbuster brothers shared there's. It's meant to be a positive thing. A re-statement or a published F3 definition for ShieldLock would help allowing pax to reference from time-to-time.
– There was some real backblast gold during the beatdown today…but show-to-know. Here is a teaser to get you out to BRP for next week. "Hey doc, so you want to khow that rail-road spike got in my ass…million to one shot."
– Coffeteria was top notch
Ok, it's Saturday night and the family wants to watch The Crown so until next time. Gray Ghost
