Nobody Cares – Work Harder

I was pleasantly surprised to see 3 of my Wolfpack brethren (Chilly Willy, Stray, and 9-Lives) arrive to celebrate a win over Miami.  I assumed they all posted so that we could bask in the warm glow of a Wolfpack win.  Disappointed that Tuffy, Blackbeard, et. al. didn’t make it to share in our revelry, but I’m sure they felt what we all felt this morning.

We have also adopted Cobra as one of us – he went to Miami of Ohio, so he knows what it’s like to have a school nearby in-state that thinks lower of you (and everyone else, for that matter).  AM-PM also showed up, but because the Wolfpack have big hearts, I didn’t hear anyone bring up the massive and embarrassing Carolina loss to Georgia Tech last night (not surprising, he wasn’t wearing his Carolina hoodie this morning).  Great to see Beave there, but I don’t think he has a dog in the fight in the ACC.

Warmorama:

We warmed up with about a mile jog around the track, then did some SSH’s, toy soldiers, long-snappers, and windmills.  YHC announced that we would be running with a rock on some hills and possibly off-campus, so Stray and 9-Lives held back on the track due to injuries, but they were still moving around the track when we returned.

The Thang:

Everyone else grabbed a rock and ran to the bottom of the soccer fields, then carried our rocks to the top of the fields.  We left our rocks there and ran back to the bottom of the fields and then back up to the top to pick up the rocks.  We then headed towards the hill on Bud Henderson, but there was a Q fail in taking the Pax through some mud – sorry for the shoes, guys!

We dropped our rocks about half-way down the hill at the CSD sign and ran to the bottom of the hill.  We then went back to pick up our rocks.  We took our rocks to the Barnette drop-off and ran to the bottom of the parking lot and then back up the hill to pick up our rocks.  We then dropped them off where we found them and made another lap around the track to pick up Stray and 9-Lives.

We did some light stretching.  Following some intensive inclusivity training at his new job, Stray was sure to point out how non-inclusive I was being by asking the Pax to bend their knees to stretch their hamstrings.  I will be sure to pray to the inclusivity gods and flog myself accordingly for my non-inclusive sins.

Moleskin:

The idea for this workout came from Cam Hanes (good friend of David Goggins).  He will pick up a big rock and run it up a mountain for a workout.  It ends up being a workout for your whole body with the rock shifting in your grips and your legs needing to carry the extra weight.  He has a quote that I repeat in my head when doing tough things – “Nobody cares – work harder.”  Along those same lines, he also said, “Nobody cares about your excuses for not achieving what you said you would or what you thought you deserved.”   This may sound like quotes with negative connotations, but not for me.  These ideas keep me focused on my goals and acknowledges that I am solely responsible for achieving those goals.  They also keep me grounded (usually) and away from the ego of doing difficult challenges.  I should do it for myself and for my family because doing hard things makes me a better person.

Cam also said, “Surround yourself with those who push you to be a better human.”  I am fortunate enough to have found F3 and all of you Pax who push me to be a better person, father, son, brother, co-worker, Christian, everything.  I appreciate the Pax for embracing this difficult challenge in a short and unconventional workout.

Until next time…
